The Costs when Buying a Property in France

The buyer pays the legal fees and taxes. This is normally around 9%-12% of the purchase price. These fees are paid to the notary on the same day s the signing of the final contract. This is normally broken down as follows

 

•Transfer fee 6%-7% but this is less for a new build property.
•Notary fees 1% -1.5%
• Legal fees 1% - 1.5%
•Property registration fee 0.6% if less than fives years old, 1% for older properties.
•Costs for registration, VAT land registry and stamp duty.
The vendor pays the agencies commission.
