Aigues Mortes is a beautiful 13th century walled town on the edge of the salt marshes in the Camargue 25 km from Montpellier and 40 km east of Nimes. This town, with is quaint narrow streets, dates back to the crusades and is steeped in history. It is built on four navigable canals with access to the Mediterranean Sea 6 km away. A vibrant town, hosting a number of festivals and events throughout the year, making it a very popular tourist destination.
